Calm has finally returned in Marsabit town, following running battles between area youth and the police after the arrest of a local sheik.
The youth, however, calmed down after area MP Dido Ali addressed the youth and cautioned them against the destruction of property.
The youth had on Saturday barricaded roads and destroyed property, demanding for the release of the sheik arrested by the anti-terror police unit on suspicion of having links with Al-Shabaab.
The tension was still high on Sunday after the three young men, who died during Saturday’s protest, were laid to rest.
More police officers from within the county were on Saturday night deployed in the area, and businesses remained closed for the better part of Sunday.
However calm returned and there was movement in the evening, with most of the businessmen whose property was destroyed coming to terms.
“We don’t accept terrorism, we don’t accept terrorists, and anybody who is doing that is breaking the law, and as we know the law should take its’ course,” said Dido.
“We as leaders and businessmen, we will sit down and agree on how those who lost their property will be compensated,” he added.
