With the El niño rains expected to affect most parts of the country, the group of volunteers going by the name Kibuye Market Waste Management group today morning removed blockages in the trenches along the major roads in the city.

The group consisting of 50 businessmen who ply their trade at Kibuye market have been promoting proper solid waste management for the last two years.

According to the group’s organiser Mr. Francis Juma, the aim of the group is to ensure that Kisumu city and its environs are clean.

“Uncollected garbage and pools of stagnant water are a common sight in most roads in Kisumu during the rainy season and it is our responsibility as Kisumu residents to ensure that our environment is cleaner and safer,” he said.

The group called on other Kisumu residents to also engage in keeping the city clean and also asked the county government to aid them with the necessary gadgets needed for cleaning exercises.

Juma also called on the county government to dedicate funds and organise for man power to pick the debris and trashes that block the trenches.
