Nakuru businessmen want the county government to hold training workshops to sensitise them on how to exploit the county’s free wifi.
Main Mwangi, a curio trader in Nakuru, claimed that he is not conversant with the new technology.
“We want the county government to show us how to advertise and even to buy products online, because most of us are not aware,” said Mwangi.
Mwangi says that residents were just told of the launch of the wifi, but so far nobody has bothered to teach them on how to utilise the resources.
“We went for the launching and speaker after speaker said that the resources will be of great help to us, but they never bothered a train us on how to use it,” laments Mwangi.
He notes that most of them still do not know how to connect their devices to the wifi.
“We do not know how to post our products online; currently we are relying on cyber café operators and some of them are not willing to help us,” notes Mwangi.
Stephen Gicheru cited that there is need for the county government to establish a resource centre for the computer illiterate residents.
“Some of us are just traders. We have never been in a computer class. It will be a great move for the county government to take us through the whole process,” adds Gicheru.
Susan Gicheru says that unless the county government orient residents on wifi lessons, the wifi will not have great impact.
"We need to be trained on how to use the resources failure to that it will not be of benefit to some of us,” notes Wither.
