Armed robbers who stormed an electronics shop at Mawanga estate along Nakuru-Nyahururu highway injured a businesswoman before making away with more than Sh30,000 in cash.
An eye witness said the four robbers riding two motorbikes stormed the shop on Monday evening and ordered the businesswoman to surrender the day’s collections while hitting her with a gun butt on the head.
John Gitonga who works at a groceries shop adjacent to the shop at the busy business centre told this writer that the businesswoman, Nancy Nyokabi, and her two employees Ken Kamau and Joyce Makena suffered great shock and were rushed by good Samaritans to the nearby St. Antony hospital after the incident.
“The robbery took place in a very short time and we could not know what was happening until the shop owner raised an alarm as the thugs rode off at high speed,”he said.
He added that the incident caused fear and anxiety at the business centre causing other business operators to close down their businesses fearing attacks by robbers as word spread within the estate.
Confirming the incident, Teachers police post officer in charge Mercy Musyoka said police had launched an investigation into the matter after the shop’s owner recorded a statement.
“We suspect that the incident could have been an inside job. Either the shop attendants or someone who knows the shop’s operations could have colluded with the thieves,” she said.
