The national assembly will this week elect officials of house committees, as they push to ensure they meet deadlines.

Last week, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi directed that the members elect their leaders by Thursday before the house goes on a two-month long recess.

This means the members of parliament will start the process on Monday, to ensure it is completed by Thursday as stipulated in the House rules.

According to the rules, elections should be held within seven days of the formation of the committees.

The rules further stipulate that the minority side will examine the national government’s expenditure and revenue accounts and investment policies.

Early last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to have summoned the party’s Parliamentary Group meeting at the statehouse, where he drummed up support for those to be elected to the various posts.

Sources indicated that Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani Congress Party has been given the chair of PAC slot, which was part of an agreement with the NASA coalition.
