Butchers in Kibera have been warned against selling meat that have not undergone the required consumption processes.
Speaking this morning at DC area, Martin Otundo, a county council officer said that many butchers in Kibera have a tendency of selling meat that has not been inspected by the meat inspection officers. He noted that most butchery owners do not meet high standards of cleanliness required.
“The environment in butcheries is sickening. Something needs to be done as a crackdown will be conducted to shut down all butcheries that do not meet the sanitation standards to operate,’’ he said.
Otundo added that it is wrong to buy uninspected meat and that residents should ensure they buy meat that has been inspected by a government health officer with a stamp showing when the inspection was done. Failure to do this will risk their lives and health as well.
“Residents should report butchers who sell meat that has not been inspected to the relevant authority. Those who are found selling bad meat to residents will be arrested,” he said.
