Ten traders have been arrested for forcing their customers to buy other items to qualify to buy the subsidised maize flour, DP William Ruto has said.
Speaking on Saturday in Kakamega county at a Jubilee rally, Ruto said the government will continue to take stern action against anyone taking advantage of the commodity.
“We as government have decided that traders of this caliber must face consequences,” Ruto said.
He said the state introduced the subsidised unga so as to cushion Kenyans from high prices of the product which had hit the all-time high of Sh180 per 2kg packet.
The subsidised one now retails at Sh90 per 2kg packet and Sh45 per 1kg packet.
