A meeting called by NCIC chair Francis Kaparo on peace was snubbed by key political players sparking off protests from elders in the region.

According to the Kalenjin Elders’ Council chairman Major (Rtd) John Seii said , politicians had been alegdly engaging in hate speech and incitement and should have attended the meeting.

“It’s as if they don’t value peace, yet they know the challenges our county has been going through,” Seii said.

Kaparo cautioned Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago (pictured), his rival Bundotich Kiprop, alias Buzeki, and other leaders in Uasin Gishu to stop playing tribal politics and using inflammatory remarks during campaigns. He said utterances by the leaders could lead to violence during the August 8 polls.

“I want to ask Mandago and other leaders to tone town on inflammatory statements,” he said.

Kaparo said the Commission will be closely monitoring election campaigns in the region, particularly in Turbo constituency, where he said there have been incidents of tribal politics.
