Former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial candidate Zedekiah Bundotich popularly known as Buzeki has asked farmers to practice commercial dairy farming.
The billionaire business mogul also wants farmers in the county to embrace new technology.Speaking at his Ainabkoi rural home, Buzeki said the use of new technology by farmers will enable then improve their earning."Commercial dairy farming will give farmers high returns as compared to conventional agriculture which has proved to be unsustainable," Buzeki said after meeting farmers on Wednesday."I want also to urge farmers to use Artificial Insemination (AI) instead of using bulls for them to boost their milk production thereafter sell to the Kenya Creameries Cooperative (KCC) to improve their livelihoods. AI services will also upgrade the quality of their dairy animals," he added. The businessman also urged farmers to ensure that they join cooperatives for them to be empowered financially and also access farm inputs at an affordable rate."Joining cooperatives is the only economic empowerment vehicle that will help them improve their livelihoods," noted Buzeki.He further asked the Ministry of Agriculture to ensure that they deliver subsidized fertilizers farmers on time."It's sad that despite us nearing the planting season we haven't received the subsidized fertilizers, the government should hasten the process for farmers to plant on time," he added.To be the first to get updates on breaking and trending news in Kenya, send your WhatsApp number to 074094990.
