Sigona ward MCA Mutonya Njenga has expressed his concerns with the low turnout of voters in Kabete constituency noting that by-elections should be held over the weekends.
He said that conducting a by-election on a weekday had greatly affected the turnout of residents to vote since majority were busy doing their daily chores.
He said that the low turnout of voters will greatly affect the results since only few voters availed themselves to practice their constitutional rights.
The MCA who was speaking in his ward on Monday called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to consider setting the date of by-elections on weekends to allow all the voters to participate in the election.
He said Kenyans need to be serious in elections to ensure the right candidate is fit to lead the nation and not to rely on few votes which most of the time tend to favor or suppress the candidates.
“Kenyans need to understand that if they come out to vote only then will right leaders be chosen. If they remain indoors leaders whom we do not want will carry the day depending on the supporters who have availed themselves,” said Mutonya.
