The Communication Authority (CA) of Kenya has strongly condemned acts of vandalism and destruction targeting Safaricom communication Installations, particularly during the post-poll period.

Speaking at CA Headquarters in Westlands Nairobi, the Communication Authority Director Mr. Francis Wangusi reiterated the role of communication installations in spurring development in the country.

He noted that communication is a basic need that we cannot do away with for our daily interaction and to facilitate trading activities.

"I am urging all citizens to restrain from the destruction of communication infrastructure," Wangusi said.

He termed the key communication installations as important national assets which have been acquired expensively, noting that destroying them would disadvantage the very people it was meant to serve.

The move comes in wake of reported isolated incidents of Safaricom facilities in various parts of the country being destroyed or vandalized.

The cases have been noted following NASA's call for a boycott of products of several companies, including Safaricom.

NASA's call has seen a number of its supporters abandon Safaricom products and migrating to Airtel.

The move has been interpreted as an attempt to put pressure on companies alleged to be close to the Jubilee administration.

The move by a few individuals to destroy installations has shocked many.

It is not yet known how NASA's measure will impact on businesses around the country.
