The Communications Authority of Kenya has rubbished claims it is spying on mobile phone usage ahead of the general elections.
Addressing the press on Friday, CA director general Francis Wangusi said mobile service providers have control over users’ data.
“The reports are falsified. We can’t query the EIR system of mobile subscribers, only mobile service providers can do that,” Wangusi said.
Earlier in the day, reports emerged that the government through CA was seeking permission to listen to subscribers’ calls, read text messages and review their mobile money transactions.
