Residents of Kiganjo, Thika are enjoying the door-to-door sale of cabbages after supply outstripped demand at the Madaraka Market.
The cabbages that are being hawked with vans, pick-ups and carts are also being sold at a throw-away-price.
"We are very happy by the new development. I spend Sh40 on a return journey to Madaraka market. But now most of the vegetables I require are available at my doorstep," Joyce Wangechi, a resident said on Tuesday.
For Daniel Kamau, it is a blessing in disguise.
"God has heard our cry. We are already paying too much on other household items. This is a relief to us," he said.
Speaking in the area at the same time, one of the sellers, Jacob Kimani, attributed the excess supply to many farmers planting the cabbages at the same time.
"I normally supply cabbages to various traders at the market but I can no longer do that because they already have excess in their stock," said Kimani.
He added: "That is why am dealing with the consumers directly. Many others are doing the same. A cabbage is retailing at an average price of Sh10."
