State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu has said that Cabinet Secretaries and others senior civil servants can attend Jubilee campaign meetings and insisted there was nothing wrong with that.

Speaking at the State Lodge in Eldoret, Esipisu said the CSs can attend the President's campaign rallies because the President is their appointing authority and therefore they are answerable to his government at any time.

He however clarified that though top civil servants might appear to be campaigning for Kenyatta and Jubilee, they are in actual sense only describing investments and projects made by the government and their benefits to Kenyans.

Esipisu argued that senior civil servants have the responsibility to account for everything they do for the national government and for the people of Kenya.

“They have to account for the progress of the administration of Uhuru since taking office, and they have to account for the confidence invested in them by the Kenyan people,” Esipisu said.

This comes after heated accusations from the Opposition claiming that Cabinet Secretaries were unlawfully campaigning for the president, and that they should stop in order to ensure equal campaign platforms for all parties.
