The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is demanding action to be taken against Cabinet Secretaries over the use of public resources to campaign for Jubilee party saying it is a total disregard of the law.

The Commission also wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to reign in politicians campaigning at night hence flouting the election laws.

The Commission is further concerned by the disrespect of the courts by political parties and with just 24 days to the general elections, the human rights watchdog wants proper security measures put in place claiming a recent survey in 29 Counties indicates a likelihood of violence.

Similar calls were made by nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi who called for political tolerance saying politicians are to blame for inciting their supporters .

As calls for peaceful credible polls get louder, nominated Senator and ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani is demanding that the IEBC makes public its progress on the voter register clean-up.

This as High Court Judge William Musyoka disqualified himself from a three judge bench constituted by Chief Justice David Maraga to hear a petition by the opposition NASA challenging the complementary voter system IEBC intends to use in August if the biometric system fails.

Justice Musyoka cited conflict of interest having practiced law with one of the NASA principals leaving Judges George Kimondo and Hedwig Ong’udi to adjudicate the matter.

NASA argues that IEBC has not yet publicly disclosed the system they will use to identify voters and tally votes in the event that technology fails.
