A need to educate employees and workers in the country on the values of safety at the work place in order was observed by Nakuru county principal labor officer Lawrence Karanja today.
Karanja was addressing participants of a Work Safety Workshop at Egerton University Nakuru town Campus. He observed that many organizations in the country were reluctant to teach meaningful and important information and skills concerning safety at work for fear of enlightening their employees or workers.
According to the labor officer, the Labour laws and Employment Act are some of the most abused legal frameworks in the country because of selfishness from employers.
While advising workers and employees in both big and small organizations to read and understand the laws, Karanja observed that many employees and workers who get injured or lose their lives in the line of duty are never compensated fully due to ignorance and selfishness from employers.
“We must ensure that we are well aware of rules, regulations and laws that entail to our employment, labor and safety. Most of our employers are deliberately failing to disseminate information on safety at work while implementing such policies because they fear enlightening their workers. This selfishness however can be mitigated by workers having a thirst to understand the safety at work policies,” said Karanja.
