Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to call of the October 26 repeat presidential poll.

Kingi says that IEBC is not prepared and does not have the capacity to conduct free, fair, transparent and credible repeat poll.

In a phone interview with the Star, Governor Joho’s deputy said that October 26 repeat poll will be a sham since IEBC has allegedly not adhered to the conditions set by the Supreme Court when it nullified the August 8 presidential election.

The deputy governor said that the resignation of IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe is a clear indication that the poll agency cannot conduct a credible poll.

He maintained that NASA will not participate in the repeat poll set for Thursday next week.

The Mombasa deputy governor said that polling stations across the county will be empty come next week.

“Our message as NASA has been clear that there will be no election next week,” he said as quoted by the Star. (https://www.the-star.co.ke/news/2017/10/18/no-voting-in-mombasa-akombes-resignation-vindicates-us-dg-kingi_c1654927).

Dr Kingi said that NASA’s push for electoral reforms is not in vain adding that they will not stop until there is sanity at the Wafula Chebukati led commission.

The Mombasa Deputy Governor urged NASA supporters and Kenyans to remain peaceful and ignore Jubilee propaganda that the opposition is planning for violence.

IEBC maintains that the October 26 repeat election is on despite NASA leader Raila Odinga’s withdrawal last week.

On Wednesday the commission suffered a major setback after one of its commissioners Roselyn Akombe tendered her resignation.

Akombe who resigned while in the United States of America (US) said that the commission cannot conduct free, fair and credible repeat election.

The former commissioner said that commissioners are partisan and inclined to political parties adding that the chairman Chebukati is under siege.
