Kwale Women Representative Zuleikha Juma Hassan has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to call off the Thursday presidential repeat poll and take time to prepare for another election at a later date.Speaking to journalists at Kwale Town on Sunday, the ODM Women Rep claimed that the Wafula Chebukati-led commission is not well prepared to oversee credible elections. She said the electoral commission cannot deliver a credible repeat poll since it has not addressed serious issues raised by the Supreme Court when it nullified the August presidential election.Zuleikha said canceling the repeat poll is the only option IEBC has at the moment.“IEBC should stop deceiving Kenyans that they are ready to conduct the repeat presidential election when the fact remains that they are ill prepared for the poll,” said Zuleikha. She said former IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe’s resignation is a clear indication that the poll agency cannot deliver credible a poll. The Women Rep claimed that IEBC is divided and can therefore not purport to conduct credible repeat election. She criticised IEBC for ignoring NASA’s proposal that could see it conduct a credible election.Zuleikha asked residents not to turn out for the Thursday poll, adding that NASA cannot participate in an election that has allegedly already been rigged. She called on Kenyans to join opposition leaders in peaceful protests on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as announced by NASA leader Raila Odinga.
