Machakos MCAs have appealed to the Ministry of Education to extend the deadline for KCPE and KCSE candidates' registration for the second time.
Speaking in Kinyaata village on Friday, Ikombe MCA Jackline Nziva said the workload at the registrar's office is much hence parents won't be able to beat the set registration deadline.
Nziva who spoke after issuing over 200,000 birth certificates to her locals said parents have been using a lot of cash going to pick the certificates from the offices in Machakos town only to be sent back.
"There's so much work at the registrar's office in Kithimani, parents have gone broke since they use fare going there only to be told 'come tommorow' or 'another day'," Nziva said.
She said a good number of parents have not acquired the necessary document despite having applied for it in time.
Addressing the press in Machakos town on Monday Muthetheni MCA Jeremiah Munguti said there has been slow movement of services due to insufficient man Power at the registrar's office.
"The number of the officers is very low compared to the number of parents flocking the offices looking for birth certificates," Munguti said.
Munguti said it's no secret that the parents won't be able to beat the deadline no matter how much they try.
He called on the government to add the number of workers in the registrar's office to clear the backlog.
On his part, the Machakos registrar of births Ken Nyamweya said his office has only issued 75% of the birth certificates applied.
Nyamweya said they have been working on 3,000 to 4,000 forms per day.
