President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to appoint more women to his cabinet team.

Speaking on Sunday in Kajiado, nominated MP Mary Seneta urged the president to have women in his second batch of the cabinet.

“He has always been a gender-sensitive president, last time he appointed six of our women to lead our ministries. We still believe that he will remember to give us more this time,” she said.

While his first term cabinet had five women, the list of cabinet announced of Friday had no woman.

However, with the second batch of members set to be announced soon, there is hope that more names will be included in his second term cabinet.

Amina Mohammed (Foreign Affairs and Trade), Raychelle Omamo (Defence), Phyllis Kandie (East African Community, Labour and Social Protection), Sicily Kariuki (Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs), and Judi Wakhungu.

In his named cabinet last week, only seven members were retained from the first term, and they included Fred Matiang’i, Najib Balala, Henry Rotich, James Macharia,  Charles Keter and Joe Mucheru.

The naming of the cabinet has led to rumours that there was a division between Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, claims Ruto has vehemently denied.

During the live broadcast of the event, Ruto was conspicuously absent, prompting Kenyans to question why he missed such an important event.
