An MP has added his voice in the push to have President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga engage in dialogue.

Kangundo legislator Fabian Muli said the political standoff in the country can only be solved if the two leading politicians hold talks.

"Persistent political bickering between Jubilee and NASA risk plunging the country into chaos," Muli warned, speaking in Kitwii village on Thursday.

The MP told Raila and Uhuru to drop their hardline positions and give dialogue a chance in order to move the country forward.

"The economy is struggling due to prolonged politicking. Businesses are closing down as Kenyans face sacking because of the current stalemate. This situation needs to be addressed urgently," he added.

The same calls for dialogue have been made by civil society groups, councils of elders, clergy, Kenya Private Sector Alliance (Kepsa) and the international community.

President Kenyatta said he will only engage the Opposition over the repeat presidential election once they exhaust all constitutionally laid down processes.
