Tension has reduced along the Kisii-Transmara border after a week of fighting between two neighbouring communities.
The fighting allegedly erupted due to cattle rustling.
For the past few days, the communities have been engaging in a fight along the border causing several people to flee their homes following the retaliatory attacks, with families left distraught.
Most traders in along the border are grateful after they were not been spared with sugar cane farmers counting losses after their farms were torched.
The two communities stopped fighting after the government through Transmara deputy commissioner Abdi Jubak intervened and settled the issues with the council of elders.
According to Abdi Jubak the communities should engage the government in case there is conflict between them.
He added that more police forces have been deployed to the area so that they can keep on patrolling to ensure the fight will not erupt again.
“We are now assuring the border residents that its calm and no community will start the fight again and the police force that is in the area will provide security accordingly,” said Abdi.
According to one of the residents along the Transmara border Joseph Ole Mari, they have not seen any sign of fighting since yesterday and everything is back to normal.
