Kisii County governor’s wife Mrs Elizabeth Ongwae on Wednesday launched a 16-day activism campaign to end gender-based violence in the county.
Speaking at the county's Sports and Culture Hall on Wednesday, Mrs Ongwae said that the county government has joined citizens and human rights organisations to promote women rights and education to all children.
"Kisii County government joins organizations and the people all over the world to promote women rights to peace and freedom from violence and the right to education for all children," said Ongwae.
She noted that among the objectives of the campaign is to attract all Kisii county citizens into active participation in eradicating gender based violence against women and children.
Mrs Bethsheba Gesare, chairperson of Maendeleo ya Wanawake in the county, lauded the county government for its efforts to solve issues affecting women.
"I appreciate the county government for they have tried in touching our primary needs positively and have identified a woman as an agent of change," she said.
