Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi retreated to his Magarini backyard on Thursday where he inspected various irrigation projects that the county government has initiated.

Kingi said the implementation of Ziara Wari, Gandini, Dagamra and Gandini irrigation schemes in Garashi Ward will ensure food security in the entire county. While addressing opinion leaders during an earlier meeting, Kingi asked to be supported in his re-election bid amid stiff opposition from Jubilee Party candidate Gideon Mung'aro.Kingi, who took issue with the current leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta, said the Jubilee government has failed the locals with the Galana-Kulalu irrigation dominating his speech. The firebrand Governor declared that the county is firmly in opposition and that no amount of energy from the President will sway the county into the Jubilee formation. However, Kingi who is Raila Odinga's point man in the region said that the Head of State has every right to campaign in the county. He urged residents to support Raila's presidential bid, arguing that the former Premier has the interests of the people of Kilifi at heart and that his leadership will bring to an end the region's decades-long marginalization.
