Mbugua says that for the last one year his government has been distributing free seedlings to farmers in Subukia, Molo and Naivasha Sub Counties with a commitment for better proceeds from farmers.

For now this has sifnificantly borne some fruits.

This has been translated into prices where a kilo of pyrethrum is trading at Sh400 upon delivery from Sh150.

Kinuthia noted that the pyrethrum sector is a source of at least two million direct and indirect job opportunities for the County.

“We intend to empower farmers so that they can be able to enjoy what they do while at the same time ensuring that we have enough food security. This will also create job opportunities to our youths,” said Mbugua.

He added that the county government has supplied fertilisers and seeds to 1000 vulnerable farmers in each Sub-County hence benefiting 11,000 farmers.

The county has distributed more than 2000 million pyrethrum seedlings to over 2000 farmers in a period of one year.
