Five candidates are battling it out for the seat that was left vacant after Francis Nyenze's death.

Nyenze, a veteran politician and a close ally of the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka died on December 6, after long battle with colon cancer.

The late Nyenze’s wife Edith Vethi is among the five candidates eyeing the seat.

Vethi says she is fit to succeed her late husband, noting that she will complete the projects her husband had initiated.

The Wiper MP aspirant says health, education, roads and empowerment will be her key projects if elected.

On Monday, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka urged Kitui residents to vote for Vethi stating they will not be disappointed by her.

The Kitui West IEBC Returning Officer James Mbai said campaigns will end today at mid-night.

“We are well prepared for the by-election and we ask registered voters to turn out and exercise their democratic rights on Monday,” Mbai told the press on Friday.

Mbai said that poling centers will open at 6.00am and close at 5.00pm.

He told those contesting for the seat to adhere to campaign timelines and election code of conduct until the last minute.

Candidates eyeing the seat are Edith Vethi Nyenze (Wiper), Robert Lelli (Narc Kenya), Denis Mulwa (Independent), Fridah Mutui (Kenya National Congress) and Elijah Kilonzi (Chama Cha Mapinduzi).
