Campus life is one of the best stages in one's life. Every single person who sits for their national exam dreams of joining university and pursue their dream course.
As a parent, you would be happy when your son or daughter gets a vacancy in Kisii University but the worry is the non-educational part of the campus. During this time, a students' life can either change for the best or the worst. These changes are mostly evident in the second year of learning.
From ladies to gentlemen, every version of their original selves changes.
Mode of dressing and hairstyles: This affects both genders. In their first year, ladies are spotted in long and oversized dresses and in cheap hair styles. They all bring innocence with them as they join the university. This is similar to men too. They will be seen in their baggy trousers and shirts which make them more of huge walking windsocks as wind blow their clothing. When their innocence is taken away by the faces of the campus, things change all over sudden!
The mode of dressing changes. Girls will be spotted in mini dresses and skirts with uncovered backs common known as 'mgongo wazi' and the 'tumbo cut'. The expensive weaves and wigs are also added into the mix! Guys will sag their pants to the knee level to show how civilised they are! With earrings in their ears and long hair.
You will spot them bouncing like tennis balls as they walk to classes holding their girlfriends' hands in the name of love. The most surprising thing is that they have so-called sponsors who pay these bills to make them look good. Alcohol is incorporated and other hard drugs are used too.
Clubs in Kisii town have become part of student's schedule. This way of life brings quite a lot of consequences to the students such as pregnancies, infections and failure in school. But who is to blame? That is the question that remains!
