Biologically, women are considered to be the most vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes and other genital infections including HIV.
It is true toilets have got several germs, especially public toilets, for instance at the workplace, those in single rooms where they share washrooms, and name them.
For that reason, many women have become germ phobia. No wonder most of the women prefer crouching to seating on the toilet seats.
In the process of crouching and not seating, they make the situation worse because of the many splashes left behind.
Dr Harold Oster, an infectious disease specialist at Scripps Clinic Medical Group in San Diego, California, USA, says toilet seats are not common vectors or rather transmission channels of infections.
Dr. Oster suggests that women should be using the toilet seats in a proper way
“If you use the toilet seat in the usual manner, it is very unlikely that you will become infected with any disease-causing microbe. Specifically, there is no evidence that HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) or the viruses responsible for hepatitis B or C (chronic forms of liver inflammation) can be spread in this manner," he said.
However, the doctor said that some particular bacteria organisms one get from toilets. It is therefore wise if you visit a clean toilet.
“There are some organisms that conceivably could be acquired by contact with toilet seats, such as the strep (streptococcus) and staph (Staphylococcus) bacteria that we routinely carry on our skin. It is possible that you could become colonized with a specific organism (become a carrier) after sharing a toilet seat with someone carrying that organism," he added.
