Wiper party leaders have requested to host the People’s Assembly on January 19 because of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (Kewopa) elections scheduled to take place this weekend. According to Makueni county boss Kivutha Kibwana, the party has formally requested the alliance to push the date.
“The retreat has been pushed to allow women parliamentarians a chance to elect officials. We request the retreat organizers to plan it before the House resumes,” said Kibwana, as quoted by The Standard.
The request comes at a time when leaders of Wiper has expressed concern over nominations into house committees. The leaders now want ODM to surrender one of the slots set aside for NASA. The leaders have vowed not to turn back until the slot is given to the political party.
“There has been disquiet in NASA over sharing of House leadership positions. We demand a revocation. We have instructed the party leader Kalonzo to get the positions shared as earlier agreed,” said Kibwana.
The stand of Wiper on the nominations has raised concern among the supporters and critics ahead of Raila‘s swearing in ceremony if the opposition current stand is anything we can go by.
