The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) has called on the Ministry of Education to stop victimizing teachers for exam malpractices that are committed by other individuals.
(Knut) national Treasurer John Matiang'i said the teachers were not going to carry crosses of other individuals.
Speaking in Kisumu on Monday during the homecoming ceremony of Knut Executive Secretary Ephraim Kananga, Matiang'i said students and cartels were to blame for exam malpractices.
He clarified that teachers were not going to be victimized for mistakes done by other individuals.
"A teachers should not be victimized on the wrong doings of students and other people. If a student is caught cheating in exams, the mistake is not with the teacher but the student. Teachers should not be threatened with sackings when most of exam irregularities are done by students and other people," said Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i's brother.
In this year's examination, head teachers were given the sole responsibility of overseeing national exams in various schools.
A number of teachers and invigilators have been arrested for alleged examination malpractices.
