Education Ministry has selected 24,795 candidates who sat for the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), to join 103 national schools.
During the release of the candidate's names, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i said other 133,785 candidates would join County schools, while 65,33 and other 492,576 selected to join schools in the sub-counties.
"The transition rate from primary to secondary school has increased to 84 per cent, up from 82 per cent last year, making an increase of 1,710 from 2015, where only 23,085 candidates got slots in the top schools,'' Matiang'i said, Tuesday.
Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, the CS affirmed that the selection was conducted on merit, quotas, equity, affirmative action and candidates' choices.
He further indicated that candidates would get their admission letters by sending an SMS with the candidate's index number to 20042.
They will then check their names on the Ministry's website for clarification.
