The Capital Markets Authority has embarked on a mission to enhance capital markets outreach in the 47 counties and enhance financial literacy.
The authority’s director of regulatory policy and strategy Luke Ombara says there are a lot of opportunities for investment in the capital markets industry.
Ombara said locals are not aware of such opportunities and the authority is not out to unlock such potentials.
“The events are geared at enhancing financial literacy and in particular ensuring that the investing public in Kisumu County appreciate the various opportunities for investment in the capital markets industry,” he said.
He said they are targeting the youth and women who are key segment of Kenyan’s population whose involvement in mobilizing savings and investments is key.
Speaking in Kisumu during a forum for the youth and women, Ombara said they have visited 14 counties through such outreach to enhance financial education.
He said investing public is key to the capital markets industry and financial literacy will enable them provide capital in response to the supply of capital markets products.
“It is the work of the authority to promote investor education and public awareness,” he said.
Ombara said the culture of savings in Nyanza region has been low and more engagements are required to allow locals to benefit from services offered by issuers such as listed companies and corporate bonds.
