The county government of Uasin Gishu has put on notice car wash operators along river Sosiani in Eldoret town.
According to the County Executive in charge of Environment, Water, Energy and Natural Resources Mary Njogu, those who will be found will face the full force of the law.
“In the last dispensation we talked to car washers and urged them not to allow their waste into the river but they refused to comply,” Njogu said in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
“As a government, we have come up with regulations where the car washers are supposed to have soap beats which will ensure that the soap does not go back to the river through silting fast. Those who will not comply will be arrested and banned from conducting their business from the scene,” he added.
The County Executive reiterated the county government’s commitment to ensuring that Sosiani river regains its lost glory.
“We have divided the river into three regions with the aim of conserving the environment through planting trees. Our aim is to ensure that the County has at least 10 percent forest cover by 2022,” she noted.
Njogu called upon residents to help in conserving the environment by at least planting one tree during this rainy season.
