[Duale when he met members of the Kalenjin community living in Garissa on Sunday.] (facebook.com/ Aden Duale)Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale has told Garissa Governor Nathif Jama to explain to the county residents the source of the Sh5 billion said to have been wired to his personal bank account from the Central Bank.
Jama last week accused his challengers of embarking on a campaign to tarnish his name through a fake bank statement circulating on social media after sensing defeat.
The bank statement bears Jama’s three official names and shows that a total of Sh5 billion was allegedly sent to the governor’s bank account on different dates.
“Time has come for you to carry your own cross,” Duale who spoke in Garissa town on Saturday said.
“He has been running around telling us off over corruption in the county. Now the truth is out.”
The Sh5 billion was supposedly wired from the Central Bank of Kenya to Jama’s personal bank account for private business. The eight-page bank statement bears a stamp on each page.
Jama has been criticised severally of plundering the county coffers for individual gain. The county chief on Saturday denied the claims linking them to his opponents and critiques.
He said his challengers have been running social media campaigns ruining his name with the objective of looking for public sympathy ahead of the August general election.
He said Central Bank regulations cannot allow huge amounts of money like the Sh640 million which is alleged to have been wired into his personal account at once.
“It is unfortunate these people can stoop so low. If they have an iota of evidence that they think they can use against me, then they should take the same to the relevant authority for action to be taken,” he said. “Even if they cook lies and propaganda, then they should do it professionally.”
