Newly appointed Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Ababu Namwamba has called on the government to ensure products from the East African Community (EAC) are utilized before importing from other countries beyond our region.
"We don't want to hear again there is a ship on the sea bringing maize from Brasil," said Namwamba.
Speaking in Eldoret town during the opening of Kenya - Uganda cross-border trade fair meant to enhance tare between the two countries, Namwmba further expressed optimism that the Jubilee governments 'Big Four Agenda' would help improve Kenyans livelihoods.
Similar sentiments were shared by Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago who challenged Kenyan farmers to go and plant maize in neighboring Uganda so as to earn a better living.
Uganda is known for producing maize at a low cost compared to the country's production cost.
"Farmers in this county should move to Uganda and try ut maize farming. They can earn more," noted Mandago.
