The court heard that the interpreter who was to appear in court on Monday during the hearing failed to do so after receiving threats.

Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Julias Nang’ea in his ruling ordered for the case to be adjourned until the prosecution finds an interpreter.

Magistrate Nang’ea requested the director of public prosecution to look for a Pakistani interpreter to enable him hear the case before he goes for his leave in August.

The magistrate further said that the court had not determined where the threats the interpreter received were coming from and asked the prosecutor to investigate the matter.

Mr Baktash Akasha Abdalla and his brother Mr Ibrahim Akasha Abdalla have been charged with allegedly being involved in the trafficking of 98 heroine packets in 2014.

They two were charged together with two other suspects, Mr Gulam Hussein and Mr Vijaygiri Anandgiri Goswani.

The US had filed an application before the Mombasa Court to have the four suspects extradited to stand trial in US for alleged conspiracy to import heroin and other drugs to the US.

The case will be heard on July 15.
