Two cases challenging the election and academic qualifications of Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana will be heard on December 7. This comes after the High Court in Malindi consolidated the two cases, and directed them to be heard as one, The Star has reported. The first case was filed by Mohamed Hatu, a voter in Tana River County, who went to court seeking the nullification of the Governor’s win on grounds that he lacks the right academic qualifications.Hatu argued that the Governor’s Bachelor’s degree from Kimmage Development Studies Centre in Tanzania is not recognized by the Kenyan Commission for University Education. Former Governor Hussein Dado filed the second case seeking for the annulling of Godhana’s win. Dado accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of denying residents in the county their democratic right by granting Godhana a win he claims he did not deserve.Justice Asenath Ongeri directed the cases to be heard as one, and ordered all parties to file their applications before the end of three days, from the day of the ruling.
