Residents of Kinanie village in Athi River, Machakos County are counting losses after floods on Friday swept away their homes among other properties rendering hundreds of them homeless.
The situation worsens as heavy rains are experienced in most parts of the county.
The incident comes few days after a section of Mombasa Road was cut off due to flood waters which toppled the 'Mto Wa Mawe' Bridge rendering it impassible.
Several houses along River Athi have been swept away by the razing floods including crops in farms belonging to individuals, some locals while others are investors.
"We want the government to give us support and our crops compensated," Mary Gacheri, a local small scale farmer said.
Gacheri said the government failed to notify farmers on the rains' onset.
"I don't have where to spend the night," resident James Musambi said.
They spoke to this writer in Kinanie on Sunday.
The locals now call on the Machakos County Government to establish a disaster management team to swiftly respond to the floods before the situation worsens.
