Murang’a County Women representative Sabina Chege Wednesday while noting the increase in the number of rape cases has proposed that castration is the only way to deter the sexual offenders.
“The long jail terms are not working. Barely a week passes without cases of young boys and girls getting raped. Castration should be the ultimate punishment now for these sex pests,” Sabina told journalists.
“We should have no mercy on these terrible criminals. They should face the harshest form of punishment,” explained the MP.
A recent shocking report on rape statistics in Kenya’s capital city Nairobi showed that slums are the leading areas where sexual and gender violence occurs.
According to the report by Medecins San Frontieres (MSF) released in April 2,421 victims were sexually abused in Nairobi last year.
The report indicated that areas around Kasarani, Githurai, Roysambu, Kahawa West, Marurui, Santon, Mwiki, United States International University and Kenyatta University recorded the highest number of victims, who were sexually abused last year.
Kayole, Soweto, Donholm, Umoja, Jacaranda, Saika and Komarock areas were rated the second. MCF reports show that the least cases of sexual abuse were reported in Makadara, Nyayo, Mbotela, Maringo, Jericho, Harambee and Buruburu.
