Casual jobs are not ideal for young educated people since they pay less, have no job security and have conditions of work, hence those engrossed in them can hardly grow.

This is according to Faith Mwende, a 24-year-old youth in Athi River town, and one of the 80 recently sacked casual workers at the Solid Waste Department in Mavoko Subcounty Government.

Speaking to this writer on Friday after a whole one week's tension on their controversial sacking by the said institution, Mwende said the youth have long and bright futures and therefore need to engage in decent employments.

Mwende said it is because of despair and poverty, packed with corruption among potential employers that exposed youth to such kind of jobs since they had no options.

The holder of form four Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) said she took the offer of cleaning section of the town as had been formerly assigned by the sub county government as last resort after walking for two years seeking for a formal job in the town in vain.

She said she could do no more such work after their sacking revealing some of the challenges she went through while undertaking her daily duties along the streets, within estates and slums, shopping, market centres among others as assigned on those specific days.

Mwende called on youth across Machakos County to take their education seriously stating that she had started small business with the money they were recently paid by Machakos County Government after they protested against delays of their wages payments with an intent of joining a middle class college for professional training.
