A middle-aged man was on Saturday buried alive in a pit latrine he was digging.
The 33-year-old casual labourer was digging the pit latrine at Kegogi, Kitutu Chache when it caved in.
Kisii County Disaster Management Director Julius Tinega said they rushed to the scene for a recovery mission.
“When we got here we established that Mr Nyakundi had been in the collapsed toilet from 10.30 in the morning and residents were already making efforts to rescue him,” he said.
Tinega warned residents against digging holes carelessly warning that the soil is not firm to hold when deep holes are worked on.
