The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has called on the National government, the Opposition and stakeholders to sit down, hold dialogue and find solutions over the contentious Election Laws 2016.
This is after president Uhuru Kenyatta assented to the Bill, to make it Law, after it was passed at both National and Senate Assemblies without amendments as the Opposition demanded.
In a statement, KCCB chairman Bishop Philip Anyolo said dialogue between the government and the Opposition over the matter would bring calm across the Country, and prevent possible street protests by the Opposition, in demand that the laws be suspended.
He noted Kenya should have peaceful elections in August, and that the political wrangles being witnessed in the Country over the Laws, are likely to spur animosity among citizens if nothing will be done.
Jubilee and Cord politicians have been in differences over the laws, which were signed into law by president Uhuru Kenyatta. Cord want the laws suspended, saying they would be used to rig elections in August.
The laws allow use of a manual backup system, in case the electronic system fails.
