This, said the clerics in a statement, will give room for dialogue.

The bishops, as the Nation reports, also appealed to Cord and other opposition parties to always give dialogue a chance.

On Thursday, Cord called for mass protests beginning January 4 after Jubilee-allied MPs passed all the proposed amendments to the Act among them allowing the use of manual voter identification in the event the electronic systems fails.

“We wish to call for dialogue among the political leadership in all processes that are related to elections to minimise mistrust, conflict and possible violence in the 2017 General Election. We wish to remind the parliamentarians who are in support of these changes that this goes against the spirit of the jointly negotiated electoral reforms,” the bishops, through the church’s Justice and Peace Commission said.
