According to Nyeri Catholic Archbishop, Peter Kairo, schools do not require prayer days for students to pass examinations because they can privately.

He has blamed corruption as the reason why a section of education stakeholders are against the initiative.

“Money has spoilt a lot of people’s heads and that is why we have been experiencing a lot of resistance in such moves meant to curb cheating. Those who are opposing must in one way or another be benefiting financially,” he said.

Kairo said that students should be encouraged to hold prayers privately and individually.

He added that the ban by Matiang'i will make exam irregularities a thing of the past.

Kairo further challenged Kenyans to support Matiangi's directive.

He was speaking on Wednesday during the burial of Fr David Mucheke.
