Mathari Catholic Church, Nyeri County has defied Catholic Church leader’s directive on Friday not to host politicians during Church harambee.
The church hosted Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega, Cabinet Secretary for Road and infrastructure and Laikipia County Governor Joshua Irungu in a fundraiser meant for construction of a Catholic University at Mathari Pastoral Center on Saturday.
In a turn of twist Kega said “It is despicable for politicians to use Churches to engage in political attacks and rhetoric. Political leaders who are interesting in political exchanges should organize public barazas to engage in politics and leave churches out of it,”
The church received a donation of Ksh3 million from the president which was presented by Macharia, Macharia`s personal donation was Ksh200, 000.
Kega and Governor Irungu donated Ksh200, 000, Nyeri County Governor Nderitu Gachagua made a donation of Ksh500, 000.Archbishop Peter Kairu received the donations and thanked the politicians for the generous donations.
