A section of Subukia residents have asked the national government to beef up security due to rampant insecurity cases in the area.
A wave of insecurity has hit Mbogo-ini area in Lower Subukia which has been fueled by increased cattle rustling cases.
Residents say that the high insecurity in the area has left three people dead in the last two weeks with the most recent happening last Sunday night where an elderly man Simon Gikonyo was killed.
For now Gikonyo’s family is preparing to leave the area for safer grounds.
"My husband has been killed and I do not know whether am next in line. We are moving to a place far away from here," said Teresia Gikonyo, the deceased's wife.
Gikonyo said that the rustlers are heavily armed and whenever they strike, they leave people in tears.
Another resident Jane Mbula has said that in the spurn of two weeks rustlers had taken away residents’ cattles.
Mbula urged the government to deploy more policemen in the area to tackle the vice.
"There are only two police officers here who can hardly face the rustlers. We are urging the government to deploy more police officers in this area,” said Mbula.
