For the past few weeks, residents of Sirikwa Ward have been forced to arm themselves following a rise in cattle rustling from a neighbouring community which has seen hundreds of cattle stolen and a few people injured in the process.

According to residents, the incident could escalate into an ethnic clash due to continued attacks that the authority has failed to avert.

"We have been forced to arm ourselves with weapons to protect our belongings and people. The authority does not seem concerned," said a resident who sought anonymity.

Area chief Timothy Ominde told this writer that plans are underway to set a police camp in the area to provide security.
