Officers from National and County Government, Sub-county Administration, political leaders-peace committees, CSO's, religious leaders, community leaders among other stakeholders on Monday converged for a forum to discuss initiatives towards sustainable peace and cohesion in Mombasa County.
The leaders included Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir, Women Representative Asha Hussein, and security agents led by County Commissioner Evans Achoki.
The forum that was organised by the Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE), saw the participants deliberate and give views on the drivers of conflict and insecurity within the County as well as coming up with possible solutions of how the issues can be addressed.
It was noted that drug abuse, unemployment, broken families, poor upbringing among other issues were some of the causes of insecurity, conflict and illegal groups in the community.
County Commissioner Achoki emphasised on the need for all leaders and administrators from the national, County and local community to continuously meet and hold meetings with residents on peace and security matters.
Participants called for dialogue and peace trainings, establishment of rehab centres, employment opportunities, psycho-social support, research on insecurity causes among other things to eradicate conflicts and insecurity.
They also resolved to actively coordinate and work together to enhance peace and security in the community.
