Addressing reporters at Nakuru Town on Sunday, Kamau said that the shortage of coins is hampering business in the county. He said that most supermarket chains, wholesale outlets and shops are complaining of coin shortage.

“The Central Bank of Kenya should quickly circulate coins so that business is not interrupted. My office has made an official request to CBK to have the matter addressed,” he said.

He noted that many shoppers are being forced to take sweets instead of getting their coin balances.

Kamau said that the situation is getting worse since some shoppers are demanding for their balances and do not accept to be given sweets and other valuables.

On Friday, a middle-aged man allegedly slapped a supermarket cashier in Nakuru town for giving him sweets instead of his Sh7 balance.
