Speaking during a press address by members of the party in Athi River, the incident was condemned, urging the members to observe peace despite their different opinions.

Machakos minority leader Thomas Mweu denounced the attack as inconsiderate, and uncalled for.

“As members of CCU party, we are aware there are heated differences between some members due to normal difference in opinions, but launching an attack on our senator at her home is disrespectful both to her family and our supreme Constitution,” said Mweu.

Kasoa explained that the Constitution of Kenya grants every citizen the right of expression without anyone intimidating or threatening them

Present during the media briefing was Raphael Mutuku, nominated member of Machakos County assembly through the CCU party, and the assistant chief whip Alex Kimitu.

The two condemned the incident describing it as personalizing political differences.

“People should embrace accommodation of different opinions from their own. This should not be blown out of proportion up to the level of threatening a person’s life. Threatening or even killing someone because of different perceptions in a given idea cannot be a solution,” said Kimitu.

The meeting had been convened following a Wednesday night attack, where around 50 armed men stormed Mativos’ home in Kinanie in Athi River Constituency demanding for her life.

The senator and her family were however fortunate as the police arrived without delay, and luckily there were no causalities.
